While on my runs

Sunset behind the ranges

It seems as though the leaders of the coalition Government believe that they are untouchable. There are reports that suggest that they intend to privatise almost everything. They must know that hospitals which have to make money can only do see by purchasing the hospitals at bargain prices, and then only by denying many potential patients access to modern high quality care.

Surely the citizens are aware of the debacle that followed selling the Railways. The consortium which paid a bargain price then proceeded to shut down services as being uneconomic. After everything that could either be closed down, or handed back with reimbursement had been cast off, public ownership was bought. A great loss of money for the public purse.

I understand that the current Prime Minister is no stranger to this sort of outcome. When he was CEO of Air NZ, he oversaw the sale of landing rights to Heathrow Airport for what was regarded as an inappropriately low price. He then left that company to pursue a political career. I understand that Air NZ has undertaken to pay much more to return to landing at Heathrow.

It is reported that he intends for Aotearoa/New Zealand to sell off as much as he can get through Parliament in the next 12 to 15 months. I suspect that the urgency is because opponents to the way the coalition is acting are considering finding ways to declare the Government has lost the confidence of the people, and an election must be held.

Perhaps this photo of clouds touched by the sunset is an indicator of hope.
