Today, we moved on from our wonderful spot in the South of Senja, to visit the busier north of the island. We took a road through the middle heading north west, and joined the Norwegian Scenic drive route. Wow, fantastic steep mountains, but also a lot of tunnels… we parked up at a place for motorhome, about 34 Euros for the night with no services, it as we mainly park for free this was ok.it was perfect to start the hike up Hesten, quite a steep and busy route, but starting later in the day, a bit quieter later on. So 558m of ascent, starting from exactly sea level, it was really hot too, about 28deg C. But totally amazing views the whole way. We went straight to the pub for a drink when we got down, and chatted to a couple from Oslo who were bike touring around Senja. I wouldn’t fancy it, with all the tunnels. We really just had salad for dinner, and enjoyed our wonderful on board shower, and quite an early night.
