A sunny morning
and a big surprise by the
lake - what else is new?

I was on my way to Paul Lake at 6 AM. We've been given a sunny day after the storms yesterday afternoon. I drove up the hill with the sun in my eyes.
I got a bit of a shock as I arrived at the west end of the lake. I found the roadway had been reduced to one lane with an automated traffic light controlling the movement of vehicles. A very large crane hovered over the end of the lake. I could see that steel had been inserted in front of the culverts which handle the overflow of water from the lake into the creek. Construction equipment had taken over the group campsite on the other side of the road and it was cordoned off with construction fencing. I managed to get a few shots before some workers started to arrived before 7.
The osprey nest is withing 100 metres of this construction area. I could see two on the nest. I'm assuming these are the young ones from this year as they look the same as those at Tranquille. I did not see or hear an adult there today.
I drove over to the north side of the lake which is the provincial park. I drove down to the picnic area to get a look back at the community end of the lake. I found some ducks snuggled together on a log. I'm thinking they are female goldeneyes, but it's hard to tell when they are closely packed.
On the way back down to the city I was lucky enough to find some lovely horses near the fence. One foal came up to the fence to look over at me. The pintos are always my favourite.
I'm home again today and wanting a quiet one with my feet up.
