There Must Be Magic

The Butterfly Blitz!

What a gorgeous day! Suddenly, after several days of too-hot weather, we launched into a perfectly delightful cool spell, with overnight temps in the 50s. The 50s!!!! I woke up happy to be alive, with the day full of possibilities. My big fantasy was to sit in the shade and drink my tea in a leisurely fashion.

However, there was work to be done, so I capered and pranced into the front yard, where I weeded and whacked in Barb's butterfly garden for almost two hours. As I came up the front steps to go back into the house, a red-spotted purple sat on the top step, as though thanking me for working for the butterflies. "Hello, Barb!" I said to the friendly butterfly.

I did a bit more work in the new garden nook, and as I finished up, I turned around to discover a huge yellow tiger swallowtail enjoying a fine breakfast of joe pye weed in the original butterfly garden on the sunny south side of the house. Oh, how it danced atop the blooms.

After all of my yard work was done, my husband and I had errands in town, and plans to eat out. Once we'd done all of that, we went over to Buffalo Run Park to sit in the shade with our books. Of course, I walked all around and took pictures.

I was enjoying the profusion of cup-plants (Silphium perfoliatum) along the creek at Buffalo Run late in the afternoon, when a very friendly red-spotted purple butterfly (Limenitis arthemis) showed up and put on quite a show. What a gorgeous day for a butterfly blitz!

Our soundtrack is Sweet, with Ballroom Blitz.
