Died 31st July 1556. Rome, Italy.
Status : Priest, Founder of The Society of Jesus, later called The Jesuits.
Patron Saint of the Jesuits, soldiers, educators, the Basque country.

St Ignatius of Loyola is a very inspiring, towering figure, in the story of the revitalisation of the Roman Catholic Church during the years of the Counter Reformation.
He was born into a noble Spanish family in the Basque country. He was passionate about being a soldier and it was while recovering from a serious wound that he discovered his vocation to serving Jesus as a priest. He made a pilgrimage to The Holy Land, then he studied in Paris. With a small group of like minded friends and the watchword" Find God in all things" they formed the Jesuits. Their live was centred on prayer, missionary work and living peacefully in brotherhood for the greater glory of God.

There is a very good talk about him on YouTube
