Life through the lens...

Dragons.

Several years ago, Rodley Nature Reserve, ( just 4 miles from Leeds city centre) was awarded the prestigious title ‘ Dragonfly Hotspot’ by the British Dragonfly Society.
Today was perfect for sitting and watching them darting about from one pond to another, and we also enjoyed chatting to the lady whose husband had designed the ponds etc. especially to attract the dragonflies.
A new pond was added last year and she was busy watering the 70 plants that had been put in around it. ( using a watering can and water from the pond)

After several attempts, at last I managed to capture this one with my little Lumix camera.
I think it is an immature male/female Common Darter.  If not please tell me.

In 2023 Rodley was came top in the BBC Wildlife Magazine’s poll to find the favourite wild life spots in Yorkshire and Humberside, and came fifth overall in the U.K.
A great achievement for this little reserve on the banks of the River Aire just 4 miles from Leeds City centre.

This Sunday they are having a 25th Anniversary Tea Party 12pm - 3 pm.
Unfortunately we won’t be able to go as it is our Pudsey Rsmblers barbecue.

Extra of some other photos I took today. Always good to see the egrets and herons, and at the moment the beautiful purple loosestrife is flowering everywhere.
