Ogden Water.
We haven’t been walking with the Pudsey Ramblers for quite a while and it was nice to meet up with some of them at Ogden Water, near Halifax, this morning.
After a walk round the reservoir MrC and I walked across the
“Promenade “ and up New Withens track alongside Halifax Golf Club.
As we climbed higher up the views were fabulous.
As you can see, from the photo in the collage, the course is quite demanding!
Back in Edwardian days, day trippers used to come out here, which was known as Halifax’s “ Little Switzerland “.
They would walk across the road at the top of the dam, which holds back the water, and thus it was named “ The Promenade”. Restored in 2007 for the reservoir’s 150th Anniversary.
The collage shows the Promenade, the view over the golf course towards Halifax, some of our members walking through the woods, and the very low water levels.
An enjoyable walk and one we haven’t done for a long time.
Nice to see many families taking the children out for a walk during the school holidays.
Especially one young lady with 6 children, including a baby on her back, a toddler who was tired and she carried back to the car. All so well behaved. A real credit to her. ( not sure if they were all hers!)
