Thank you for all your wonderful and generous comments yesterday. I will take time to read them again after the holiday.
This morning we checked out of our lovely little hotel and drove towards the Highlands. The first stop was at Hveravellir, one of the geo thermal areas, with boiling pools of water. Every so often small fountains erupt.
The roads were gravel and became more and more difficult to traverse. It also started to rain and the clouds were low.
Andy drove wonderfully, but he must be exhausted tonight. I thought that Namibia’s dirt roads were bad, but these are very challenging!
Eventually we arrived in the orange landscape of Kerlingarfjöll, where ice and hot water meet. Sadly it rained all the time we were there and I made my images on the mobile phone to protect my other camera.
A young warden told me that the colours look much better in the rain, so we were lucky to be here today.
I ventured a small way down the hillside but decided that discretion is the better part of valour, and went no further.
My old friend, Aggie (left knee), has swelled during the trip and is very painful. I am hoping it is soft tissue damage and that she is not following in Arth’s footsteps.
Tomorrow is our last full day and we will arrive in Reykjavík in the evening.
