Marjorie's ramblings

Celebrating in Akureyri

Today was full on and included a late evening shoot, so I ran out of time to post my blip. I wanted to post on my Blipday, but it was not to be.

We went to see an area with pseudo craters and ended up spending a couple of hours photographing birds in the warm sunshine.

I enjoyed doing something beyond my comfort zone and I’m pleased with some of the results. A tiny red phalarope entertained us, searching for food very nearby. Then a whimbrel and meadow pipit sat on adjacent posts and watched the world go by.

Our big waterfall of the day was Godafoss. It was worth seeing, especially as a rainbow appeared on cue. There were coach loads of people, most of whom took selfies at the main viewpoint! We determinedly put our tripods up and made our images (although my extra is a phone image).

We stopped in the capital of the north, Ayureyri. Only half an hour here, but I found my blip. I love it when the odd or unusual presents itself.

Just as I love the huge variety of images on this wonderful site and the wonderful variety of the people in this community.

I hope to keep on saving my life one day at a time for another 15 years.

We had a long drive to our final destination of Hotel Hvitserkur. The mist had descended. We still went for an evening shoot to see the famous sea stack in the shape of an elephant. We waited for the tide to recede, but after a couple of hours, chilly and damp, and with no promised sunset we gave up.

There was a shortcut of very steep climb up the cliffs. Andy took my bag and walked behind me, supporting my back to get me up safely!’
