Gullfoss
This was our last full day as a group.
We were packed and off just before 0830 to be at the geothermal area of Hveragerði before the crowds. We were not alone but the coach loads were arriving as we left.
My extra show the geyser that erupts every 4 to 8 minutes. There is no warning, so we had to stand with cameras at the ready to shoot on burst mode. I suggested tripods so Andy went back to the van for them. It reduced arm ache! It goes much higher but the blue colour disappears and I wanted to show that.
I did quite well with my iPhone too.
A cyan coloured blob appears followed by rapid rocket shaped flume of water. It is boiling, but becomes steam before it depends on the crowds below.
Today’s main waterfall was the famous Gullfoss. It is a complex interweaving of water and truly magnificent. The wild flowers in the area were good too.
I have chosen to show you a small section from close to the water. The sounds of the water roars in your ears.
I can see a woman gracefully reclining in the water (and her husband more submerged to her right)!
Although we had seen many Icelandic ponies in the distance, we had not been close to any. It is against the law to stop your car on the roads and there are few lay-bys. Andy managed to find a small group in a field near a house. They were gentle and friendly.
We arrived in Reykjavík in the late afternoon, then had our final meal in Harry’s restaurant (although they had lost our booking).
I was too, too tired to blip!
