Graubunden vineyards
This morning we met up with friends and had a wonderful walk around Malans and the vineyards. Vineyards have been in this fertile valley for centuries, and in this mild climate of the Graubünden Rhine Valley mainly Burgundy grapes are cultivated, although Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and even Syrah are also grown. A local speciality is the Completer, a Malanser grape dating back to Roman times.
It is a very scenic walk amongst the vineyards and the town of Malans - see extra - is very picturesque. We had a packed lunch sitting on a bench overlooking the vineyards and enjoying the view.
The weather forecast always says it will rain and it is usually wrong! Today was sunny and bright with blue skies. However the end of the week we are expecting rainy weather - if the forecast is accurate.
This afternoon Gavin and I played golf. The course is only 9 holes but very quirky and challenging. It is usually very quick but when we got to the 5th hole there was a backlog of players as for some unknown reason the groundsmen had decided to work on the green in the middle of a busy, fully booked course! We waited half an hour for them to finish and then they drove off but the sprinklers were left on so we had to dodge the spray of water when putting!
