Reflections

We were expecting rain all day today, but despite a bit of rain this morning, it has been hot and sunny in the village yet the mountains tops have been covered in thick cloud and it looked like it was raining up there. Gavin worked all day, so I walked Xena this morning and ended up getting so hot as I thought it was cooler than it was and was wearing the wrong clothing. Then I went into the village to get groceries and was back in time to make lunch. Xena had another walk through the village after lunch where I took this photo of the reflections on the village reservoir - you can see the thick low cloud on the peaks.

Later this afternoon when Gavin had finished his work we went to the driving range, it is across the road from the apartment so it's no effort really to walk there with our bags. We had a good hour practising various shots, and now I am about to make supper while Gavin is back doing some work.

Our camera club qualified for the PAGB (Photographic Alliance of Great Britain) Inter Club PDI (Projected Digital Image) Championship which was held in Warwick last week. If I understand it correctly it is the clubs who came first and second in their county championships who then go forward to compete at this national level. We did surprisingly well by coming 8th overall. One of our members was awarded the gold medal for the best image of the competition. My image of the San mother and child was entered and scored reasonably well. Our competition secretary reported back that our nature and landscape images did not score highly, which is true of the recent trend for these kind of images not be favoured, and instead she reports that there seems to be a strong preference these days for staged portraits of models in all guises, children in Victorian dress and composite images, that kind of thing, that no one in our club likes doing. I too have noticed the preference for these kind of images, you see many of them it in the salon competitions which is why I have never bothered with them as I personally don't like that kind of thing, but then everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

Meanwhile Tommy is in geek heaven in Vienna, meeting all the machine learning scientists and engineers that he has heard about from reading their papers, and he is enjoying the conference very much.
