Dolly's Day

Marquetry

A busy Monday.  First I had an appointment at 9.20am with a nurse at the Health Centre in the village to check my leg ulcer and change the dressing.  When she looked at it she thought it might be infected ( not again ! ) so she called in a doctor to check.  It is infected so Ive been prescribed antibiotics for a week, some codeine and some laxatives in case the codeine makes me constipated.  She put a new dressing on my leg. Both the doctor and  the nurse were surprised the ulcer had gone on so long and the Complex Wounds Clinic at Blaydon  hadn't progressed to putting a compression bandage on.  They said to mention that next time I'm at Blaydon ( I'm there next week).

So I called at the chemist to get my 3 prescriptions and did some food shopping before coming home.  Pottered around but didn't do much as my leg was painful.

Then I had to walk down to the village again as I had a 2pm appointment with a nurse for my osteoporosis injection.  I have to have them every 6 months.  I already had the injection in my fridge... and I did remember to take it with me. I saw one of the nurses I had seen there before for my leg ulcer and she asked how it was doing.  I told her about the infection and getting antibiotics. She was getting ready to give me the injection when she had a thought.... she remembered that you cant have the injection if you have an infection... and if you are on antibiotics you have to wait for 2 weeks after you finish them to have the injection.  She checked the rules online and she was correct.... so no injection today.  You couldn't make it up could you. Anyway I have an appointment to go back and get the injection on 11th August.

I'm disappointed I couldn't  have it today as the consultant at the hospital made it clear that I have to have them every 6 months... on the dot.  Apparently every day after that without the injection my bones will be deteriorating.  When I do get the injection it will halt the deterioration but it won't reverse it.  So that's 3 weeks of deterioration which is not good at all.  Can't be helped but its just one more thing to concern myself with.  Too much going on at the moment.

I came straight home after seeing the nurse and set about doing the hoovering and a bit of tidying.  Still need to pack but it shouldn't take long as I'm only away for 3 nights.

I was without a blip for Mono Monday - the theme is 'wood' but I decided to blip this marquetry picture which was done by my Dad.  As it would have been his birthday today I thought it would be appropriate.  He was called Ernie - born on 21st July 1923 and he died in 1995.  Ive added an Extra of a photo of him taken in 1990 and a colour version of his marquetry which shows the different shades of wood.  It must be well over 70 years old and is rather faded with a few bits missing but its still lovely I think.  Thanks to JacZero for hosting the challenge.

Whats the difference between marquetry and parquetry ...........marquetry and parquetry are both decorative woodworking techniques that involve creating designs with wood veneers  Marquetry is used to create pictures and intricate imagery, often resembling paintings, while parquetry focuses on geometric patterns, frequently used in flooring or other larger surfaces
