My God, this heat…
Catching up on blips after a week of stultifying heat, and too much translation. Ottawacker Jr. spent a lot of the morning on the buses – he wants to see where every route takes him, apparently. While this is laudable, I am beginning to question his sanity.
Only 5 days till he leaves now, so in the p.m. we went off to the local book store (Indigo) to get him some reading and to get a gift idea. Mrs. Ottawacker had a medical appointment at 2:30, so she dropped us off en route. Obviously, she was delayed, so we mooched over to the Starbucks side of the store and he bought a sugar-free peach lemonade. As you do. We then sat out in the 33° heat while he drank it, and we waited for Mrs. Ottawacker to swing by and pick us up. I demurred at his “catching the bus” suggestion.
Home, a little more work, and then just as we were leaving to pick up Lucas and go to his final team practice before he heads off, we got a message saying “in light of the intense heat, we are pushing it back by 30 minutes”. A pointless effort – all the more so as it as sent too late for most people to get it. As we had scheduled to pick up Lucas five minutes later, we had little choice but to go and get him. The message essentially had the predictable effect of half the team turning up at 6:30 as per usual, and the rest turning up at 7. This, in turn, had the effect of some of the kids staying an extra half hour in the heat.
Oh well, they are young. They’ll bounce back…
