wild and windy

Today there was a severe thunderstorm watch that fortunately missed us here on Wolfe Island. We did get some rain and a bit of thunder... but it's been very windy. I took this photo a couple of hours ago and it is still blowing! When the weather is like this we get small white caps on the river and so I ran out to take a photo.

We are on the Bateau Side Channel of the ST Lawrence River and if you follow that out a short distance west, there you are on Lake Ontario. Steve tells me there can be 6 to 9 ft waves there depending on the weather, yikes! He's been out there in a boat before, but we don't take the boats there. The weather can change in a minute and you could get caught in a dangerous storm. 

We did take our guests by boat to Horseshoe Island, where we have family friends. It looks out over Lake Ontario. The weather was good and we used the family boat, a 1960's Lyman Islander. It's a gorgeous classic wooden boat. You can see a photo of it here, in a blip from last summer. I'll add an extra from Tuesday's trip as well.
