Shetland - Day 3

There had been some rain overnight and Lerwick felt much refreshed this morning. It was also lovely and quiet without any cruise ships after the two biggies we’ve seen Saturday and Sunday. After picking up some supplies we headed off West for the day, an area we have not been to before. With the skies clearing, it soon hotted up and we had two walks in pretty strong sunshine. Nice to see some Ringed Plovers (Sandiloos) on the beach (in extra) along with Oystercatchers, lots of Meadow Pipits in the grasslands and a pair of Arctic Tern screeching above us.  Red throated divers out at sea too.
Tonight we are off on the Storm Petrel Dusk Trip on the Mousa Boat which departs at 10.30pm, it will be a very long day indeed. The storm petrels (alamootie), feed out at sea during the day and only come ashore under cover of darkness. I don’t imagine I will be getting any photos so thought it best to post my blip now.
At 01.04, on the way home from Mousa, I added a 2nd extra, a picture of the Iron Age Broch in the dark with everyone watching the storm petrels flying in and out, wonderful to see and hear them. Such a beautiful night too, we have been so lucky with the weather.
