Bressay
Our dusk boat trip to Mousa was wonderful last night, we were so lucky with the weather, clear skies, warm temperature and lots of lovely storm petrels to see. I added an extra of the Mousa Broch to last night’s blip early this morning as we made our way home in the wee small hours. We got to bed at 01.45am and I was up again at 07.15, the wee coffee shop across from our apartment starts preparing to open quite early!
We started our day at The Shetland Museum, we’ve been before but it was good to revisit and there is a lovely art exhibition on at the moment with a local artist Ron Sandford. After coffee and a cheese scone at Pete’s, we took the ferry over to Bressay, a short 10 minute crossing. We walked up past the lighthouse to the cliffs looking down on the nesting Fulmar (Maalie) with their chicks (in extra). I love the colours and textures of the wildflowers, mosses and lichens growing on the rocks so this is my main. We had a lovely lunch of soup and toastie at Speldiburn Cafe and took some cake home for afters. Heading back to Lerwick on the 3pm ferry, we popped in to the Textile Museum to see the lovely examples of Shetland knitting.
Back to the apartment after that in need of a bit of down time. It may be a very early night as we are both feeling quite exhausted. There is so much to see and do, I thought 5 nights would be plenty, I was wrong!
