Day out in Cromarty

On a stunningly bright and rather hot day, our main occupation today was a day out in Cromarty, via the Nigg Ferry.

From the ferry, we wandered up to Victoria Hall, via the Cromarty Bakery, to the Community Market. Excellent stalls, including Xoko bakehouse who had come up from Inverness. We managed to resist the delicious looking cinnamon buns, although regretted that later on. After that, it was a wander down the street via another craft shop called Foundling Home where further purchases were made (and will feature on blip), and time to allow neatwithice to get her blip, to get a morning coffee / pint of cider for Mr A in the Fishertown Inn. As neatwithice notes, we left Mr A (who took a typically eclectic approach to recording the day) guarding the purchases whilst the rest of us went to Hugh Miller's home / birthplace for a look around. We had further time for a longer wander through the town, taking in another gallery and pottery, and seeing the local ladies (including the owner of the pottery) ready to take their afternoon swims, before our slot for late lunch (excellent pizzas) at Sutor Creek. Home again via the ferry, we had pretty much all had too much sun by then. Mr A and I dozed while neatwithice and W went off in a largely fruitless search for electrons.

Evening saw us enjoying the sun again outside, having a perfect summer drink of a mint and strawberry mojito in the back garden with N and A, who popped round.

My travel companions and the day's harvest of strawberries (probably the main one we are going to get this year, although there are quite a few left still to ripen) are in the extras. The homegrown strawberries are just delicious (and rather scaled up on last year's harvest - see extra to this blip) and we remain grateful to meles and DaveH for starting us on our way with a few plants.
