A grand day out

When @lovenature and I last met, one of us mentioned The Burrell Collection - they hadn't been since the reopening, and I'd never been at all. Today was the day to visit. Tram to Haymarket, train to Glasgow Queen Street, tardy 54A bus to Pollock Park. The park has a wealth of grand trees and is being well tended; Pollock House is closed for repairs.

The Collection has a very good building, with rooms upstairs giving views into and over the higher ceiling'd rooms on the ground floor, and a pleasant restaurant on the lower ground level. Some excellent paintings, a good deal of 'from school of' painting, and thousands of objects, ranging from ancient Egypt to the 1930s.

After light lunch we walked through the park, finding the Avenue of Limes (not many bees, though the trees were in full flower). Around to Maxwell Park train station, in to Glasgow Central, walked through to Queen Street, and an express train back to Edinburgh. Quite a number of Iron Maiden t-shirts in evidence.

Warmer in Edinburgh than it had been in Glasgow, 24C. Open windows and doors in the evening.
