Elizabeth Castle

Today we went to Elizabeth Castle which is adjacent to the harbour at St Helier. It can only be reached by walking across the causeway at low tide or taking the amphibious vehicle when the tide is up. My Blip shows how we got there.
The Castle's construction began in 1594. It has had a chequered history including the governance by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1600 and the German Occupation in WWII. We were there for over two hours but still didn't see it all.
Every Sunday local Historical Interpreters give displays of the garrison in 1781 including firing of muskets and cannons. See Extra.

This is my 2000th Blip. I really can't believe I've posted this many photos. Here's to the next 2000!
