Iconic Terrier, 2678 drifts over Cranbook Road
A turn at Cranbook Road crossing today. The first in a long time, since May 2022 in fact. I had to take a turn here else my competency to work these gates would lapse and, as the gates are under the control of the Tenterden signalman I wouldn’t be able to work that box either.
I’m not sure if it matters much as who knows what I’ll be doing next year. At the moment I’d like to come to Kent and continue to volunteer. I may feel differently when we’re finally settled. We have been investigating other heritage railways but they’re either small or a good distance away from Cumbria - not as far as Kent is though.
I’m awaiting the last up train and return light engine then it’s home for Saturday evening traditions. It may well be the last actions I make here. It’s been warm but not too hot with a brisk breeze to keep the air moving.
Much has been accomplished in the 8 hour shift from ticking off many tasks, to having strum on the Uke and watching some YouTube videos of travel vlogger Steve Marsh.
I don’t know what they’re burning in the firebox. Old tyres by the look of it. The coal must be pretty poor quality as both locomotives have suffered from clag. I’ve no idea where it comes from. It’s very sulphurous.
The Victorian set of wooden coaches looked fine today and are perfectly complimented by the diminutive Terrier in charge.
