Victory
Unlike Phoenix and the Azores, Leeds offers test match cricket. I'd been following the England Vs India game during the conference, but after the last interesting talk I took a bus up to Headingley to see whether I could get in to see the conclusion. I'd decided not to go back to the hotel to leave my laptop, and at the ticket office I was told that I couldn't take it in. However, I learned that a nearby enterprising hotel owner was offering a bag drop. I lost a bit of time finding the hotel and then getting a ticket, but by 16:00 I was in the ground.
Although the game had appeared largely won by England by then, a couple of wickets and a rain delay made for an anxious 30 minutes. Eventually the sun broke through properly, and with a final flurry of strong strokes, England took a statement victory in the first of the five-match series.
Earlier I'd given my talk as the first of four that I was chairing, and got some acknowledgement in a later talk on a similar topic.
I'm steadily recovering from the food poisoning I picked up on the way down - a dodgy shawarma wrap at York station - but after breakfast I've only wanted a liquid intake all day. Hence I'm thankful that I didn't pay to attend tonight's gala dinner, as I still don't feel like eating.
Now to work more on my talk for Thursday, and prepare the workshop name badges for A to print and insert into the badge holders that arrived at home today!
