Art attack

Into town today for a meeting with a contractor. At lunchtime I took myself to Calton Hill where I had my lunch. Lovely sunshine but the breeze was just strong enough to make me feel a bit cold at the same time.

I did a bit of detective work in the afternoon and then cycled home, still in lovely warm sunshine, picking up some soup for tea as I went.

Said detective work revealed the next two (or maybe the last two) of Helen Miles' little mosaics in Edinburgh that I've been visiting over the months.

The top one is called Byzantine Flowers. When it was new, three or more years ago, it was lovely, a white background with brown, round-headed blooms and buds on tall willowy stems. But within a year it was carelessly graffitied over, and hasn't been attended to since.

The bottom one is locally called Janus and Mosaic, because a big black spooky looking face has been painted alongside, although I don't think it's anything to do with the mosaic itself. As to what the mosaic actually is, I have no idea. There is a hint of logarithmic spiral about so it might be a flower head perhaps.

So, so much for that. Maybe I should have blipped the view from Calton Hill instead!
