Sunday stroll - Sett Valley Trail
Minus Youngest (being a teenager) and Shadow (easing into retirement) we took a drive over to Hayfield. There was no firm plan or destination, just a need for some fresh air, and as we neared the turn off the A road I suggested it a wander along the Sett Valley Trail that leads on to New Mills.
The path runs along a disused railway line and as such is fairly flat and shaded. It is frequented by walkers, occasionally by horse riders and bicycles too. A Mum & Daughter passed by on a fab looking small wheeled tandem that looked fun. The Sett Valley Cafe whilst worth stopping for & thus busy, sits nearer the Hayfield end and as such we decided to carry on to find somewhere at New Mills.
Yomping up the steep cobbled road into the centre was just the reminder needed that a cuppa was in order, the Bridge Cafe looking good, as did their cakes. We sat outside with a view into the deep sandstone gorge and confluence of the rivers Sett & Goyt.
We found a path down there via the train station to begin the journey back. Left on the collage is looking down from street level at the railway & Torr Vale Mill. Next to the river is the Millennium Walkway, an elevated path around the bend in the river opposite the Mill. The right of the collage is from the opposite direction with a better look at the walkway.
Tea was a hot hot Indian takeaway followed by a good late video natter with Bestie to discuss various new rabbitholes fallen down :-)
