Men At Work
I love watching men work...which is a good thing. I went outside to watch just in time to see that one of the men working in my garden was busy cutting off my beloved Virginia Creeper! (main)
Now, I know that Virginia Creeper is not everyone's cup of tea, but I love it! It hides a lot of sins and it turns red in the fall. "But", the fellow said, "your fence is falling down - the vine is too heavy and making it lean!"..Wrong...Yes the fence is leaning but it has been for decades, and that's why the Virginia Creeper is there - to hide that! A new fence would mean fewer trips abroad!
Whew...no real harm done...Virginia Creeper is like hair; give it a bad cut and it will grow back in no time.
Shawn and his two helpers worked really hard for about 5 hours and what a difference it made in the garden. Not all of it was good; By the time they took out all the stray wandering plants and most of my ferns, I was left with a lot of open barren space in one of the garden beds ( extra) ...but it is temporary. Much planting and re-planting is to follow and I know I will like the results....eventually. I was somewhat prepared for the massacre of the ferns, but not quite enough.... it still hurt.
Otherwise, I am really pleased with the rest of the garden. Everything looks so neat and tidy (extra) and I can envision it with all the new and interesting plants that Shawn will put in those open spaces.
PS: The Virginia Creeper on the arch got a nice stylish haircut and looked better for it
