Relaxing
We slept well, and enjoyed our first breakfast in the hostel grounds (see extra) before starting to explore Ponta Delgada. Near the old fort we spotted a tourist "road train" and thought it might be a good use of 50 minutes to get a quick impression of the place. Unfortunately the English commentary came after the Portuguese, so we couldn't match it to what we were seeing! Hence it was rather a waste of time!
By not taking the outward flight, our return flight booking was suspended - without us being told. A tried to phone, but got nowhere, so we walked for an hour to the airport, hoping to talk to a human being. No-one could help, so we persisted with Air France on the phone. Once we'd convinced them that we'd got ourselves to the Azores "otherwise", they were prepared to waive the fee for reinstating our booking! We still have to call them within 24 hours of flying back, though. We could only think that they want to be sure that we're not stopping them from reselling our seats "for fun". Whatever, it was a big relief that we didn't have to buy hew flights again from scratch.
After taking a taxi back, we found a nice restaurant where we shared an Azorean platter as a starter, and then I (A) had sardines (squid). We continued exploring the old town, stopping off at a café where I (A) has a white sangria (fresh pineapple juice), before returning to the hostel to chill.
The hostel cat just chilled...
