Glyndebourne

We had a relaxing morning at home, did some chores, and had a good dog walk with Xena. Tommy arrived home yesterday after working in Cambridge all week, so it was good to see him again.

We had a light lunch at home and then got dressed in our glad rags to go off for our annual visit to Glyndebourne opera. This year we were sadly a little party of four rather than our usual eight - just Gavin, Luke, Tommy and I. We missed having the others with us.

It was thankfully a bit cooler today after the hot day we had yesterday, but at Glyndebourne it was very windy and that wind was cold. We usually picnic but with only four of us it was easier to eat at one of the restaurants there, so I only needed to pack drinks and nibbles for beforehand. I was very pleased that we were dining in one of the restaurants this year as it was just too cold in that wind to be picnicking outside. All the women were trying to keep warm with wraps around their posh summer frocks, and of course the men did not have that problem wearing suits.

We all enjoyed the opera which was The Barber of Seville.  It was very funny which is a change as usually the operas we see are tragedies. You don’t go to opera for the plot as it is usually absurd, but rather for the singing and the staging of it. There was some very fine singing today!

Luke is staying at home tonight as tomorrow is Father's Day and we will be celebrating that.
