Nicky and her Nikon

Lady Marchmont and her chariot!

Today has been a very hot summer's day, lovely for the summer tourists to London but not great to travel on tubes and trains in this heat (which are not air conditioned).

This morning I had an optician appointment for a checkup, half the appointment is checking my vision and the other half is checking my eye health. As I have got older I have floaters and some other mild issues which are not a problem now, but they need to be watched as they can become a problem. My vision has deteriorated, as I expected, so I need new vari focals as last time I did not change my lenses despite the prescription changing so I was due for a change of lenses - ouch, vari focals are so very expensive.

Then I got the train to London to meet Lady Marchmont and JR. It was lovely to see them again, and we had a very relaxing lunch at the RAC Club which was very comfortable on a hot day. This is the display car in the Rotunda, it is some kind of Ferrari and undoubtedly expensive.

After I got home I had a chance to cool down and freshen up before going to Wimbledon for my appointment with the dermatologist, a check up for possible nasty moles after my basal cell carcinoma found last year. My appointment was at 7.15pm, I think that these days the private specialists are so busy with more people using them when they cannot get appointments on the NHS without a very long wait. The NHS aim to get non-urgent patients seen by consultants within 18 weeks of referral but that has not always been achieved, for hip replacements waiting times average around 27 weeks.

The dermatologist did a thorough body check for all possible nasties but everywhere was looking good, so that was pleasing news. Having a late appointment meant I had hardly any traffic and got to Wimbledon in about 20 minutes.
