Rose and guests

This week is go-live week for the project. My code was moved into production last week with only a one issue and this week is the final dash to the line. When we're this close to the line it's either total panic or hours of tedium doing nothing waiting for a problem. In the gaps I do my best to check things, update documentation, check things again and hope I've not made too many errors.

All software has bugs in it - it's the nature of the beast - the more lines of code you write the more bugs there will be in it, it's a simple as that. When you write code you try to put internal guards in place to prevent damage, but they only go so far, which is why you need rigorous testing. Most people can't test code properly and complex business software with lots of permutations, combinations and the like is notoriously hard to test. My current client does do testing, but it's so superficial that it barely scratches the surface and makes me nervous. On the last project we did a lot of testing for the client, so we were confident it was going to work, this time we simply haven't had the time...

Anyhow after a day's work I went to my mother-in-law to collect my four-legged companion to take him for a walk. Dog walking is good exercise and helps to clear the mind. My mother-in-law has some nice roses, and here is another blip in the pretty late afternoon light. This one has an aphid or two on it, but the flower seems to be okay. The dog remains unimpressed with flowers.
