Lisbon
I was last here in 1989, a mere nineteen year old. Having lived in the Algarve I had loved and left a boyfriend when I went to Uni in London. Consequently my first year at Uni involved working frantically in Safeway at the Barbican to afford the romantic reunions in the holidays.
Easter ‘89 the destination was Lisbon. I had bad outfits and bad shoes which gave me blisters. Didn’t have the internet then to tell me about the hills and the need for comfort over fashion.
So it’s rather strange to retrace my steps and remember the places and corners of so long ago. Including mimicking a few photos that I’ll need to dig out and compare.
Better outfits. Better shoes!
We got the train form Porto, smooth trip to Lisbon arriving mid afternoon.
Great hotel again, so central near the Marque de Pombal roundabout which is at the top of Avenida de Liberdade.
Jumped on a tourist sightseeing bus and out to Belem and Geronimos, both of which I’ve seen and current BF no interest is seeing so it was a quick tick.
Instead, jumped off at Rossio, some sangria, a wander to a recommended rooftop bar, some rosé, gazed at the incredible view, down into the centre for the BEST pastel de natas at Mantiegiera, ooops had two.
Then jumped on the night bus and got a nighttime glimpse of the buzz of Lisbon.
Great day 1
