Big Festival day in Lisbon so our planned hop on hop off bus journeys didn’t happen and instead we walked. Everywhere
Up to Castelo St Jorge for incredible views of the city and down the Tagus. Down through Alfama in the little winding streets. Up to Bairro Alto for drinks on another terrace looking across from the other side of the city. Down to walk along the riverside.

32,000 steps required a little doze by rhe roof top pool then out to watch the crazy parades down rhe Avenue de Liberdade. Lidl we’re giving out green curly wigs and Superbock, these fetching hats which was fun to see the whole crowd in. The parade involved a bit of a competition between Lisbon districts with beautiful floats, dancers in amazing costumes. Bizarrely it’s also a tradition for some brides to get married on the parade and the council then pay for the wedding. The poor grooms had tk take part in a cringeworthy dance … so whether or not they felt it was worth it, or how long the marriage lasted thereafter waits to be seen.
