Gunwalloe Church Cove

After a pre-breakfast hot tub, we’ve spent most of the day in the vicinity of Gunwalloe Church Cove, just beyond Poldhu Cove that we walked to yesterday.

Nestled into the dunes behind the beach in the main photo is St. Winwaloe Church, named after a Breton saint who landed here and built a hermit’s cell where the church now stands. Gunwalloe appears to be a Cornish version of his name.

The church (in extras) is only 12 feet wide, one of the smallest in Cornwall, but with a beautifully tended churchyard.

Mullion Golf Course happens to border the beach so we spent some time watching a few golfers attempting to reach a fiendishly tricky green. It looks  a very hilly and windswept course!

After a coffee and cake from the NT cafe we walked around the coast path towards Porthleven for a mile and a half beyond the headland in the main blip before turning back to the car park. It’s  a magnificent stretch of coastline.

We stopped at the chocolate factory and shop in Mullion village on the way back (purchases may have been made), then had a read and another session in the hot tub before dinner.
