Porthleven Harbour
After a rather damp start, the weather improved mid-morning, so we drove to Penrose, the National Trust estate just outside Porthleven for a beautiful and varied walk, first through park land, then a wooded path beside a huge lake, created when the River Cober became dammed by the growth of a sand bar across its mouth at Loe.
From Loe Bar we followed the South West Coast Path to Porthleven, where we had a mooch round and an excellent lunch of mixed fried seafood ( fish, king prawns, salt and pepper squid) and chips at Cargo, a street restaurant run from a container by the harbour side. Highly recommended!
The photo is of the harbour as we set off to retrace our steps, just as the sun was breaking through. By the time we got back to the car, we’d done nearly 9 miles and 20000 steps. We were in sore need (pun intended) of the hot tub.
The extra gives some idea of how Loe Bar has formed the lake behind it. Going home tomorrow for a rest.
