Hungry or hot?
I don't think hummingbirds stick out their tongues like a dog when they get hot. I suspect he might be catching a gnat. Hummingbirds need protein so they will eat tiny flying bugs. This one is a male broad-billed hummingbird I captured this morning in the park. I went early to beat the heat. On the way home, I stopped at a place to eat and had a veggie bagel (bagel "sandwich" with cream cheese, tomato, onion, and bean sprouts with honey mustard dressing.) I hadn't been there in several months so it was a nice change of pace.
I went for the haircut I couldn't get yesterday and finished up the wash. Now every bit of clothing I own is clean! That doesn't happen very often. The only thing I have left to do is to wash a couple of feeders and put out fresh water, oranges and nectar for the birdies. They really need the water. It evaporates from the dishes quickly because the humidity is a desert dry 5%. Not complaining but it must have been 130+F in the car each time I got back into it. Time to get the window sunscreens, steering wheel cover, white hand towels for the side windows, and the gear shift sock into the car!
