Cold and dreary
The temp just reached 6 degrees at 4pm so it was a good day for indoors. I don't usually mind winter but this year, being a bit slow around the place, I have really felt it - and it has only just begun.
Bob bought in some frost sensitive plants and this orchid takes up all the front room. This is a big window. Isbi gave it to me (it is an old family plant from isbiJG’s parents) and this is the first year it has flowered.
I finished putting the baby blanket together and now have to decide on a border. I will do that tonight. I also finished the book I was reading by AJPearce (Yours Cheerfully) about the women in WW2 and the challenges they faced trying to run a home with few provisions, go to work and make ends meet with or without a husband. Most were away in the war or had been killed. Sad but uplifting. Oh and there was a wedding to organise. The dress was made from a parachute (silk) and presents were things like sugar rations so a cake could be made. Makes me think how lucky we are.
It is a public holiday here today (King Charles’ birthday). We did nothing special and no one in the family got a knighthood this year. Oh well.
