6029

It is the King’s Birthday Long Weekend here in NSW. Each year Bathurst holds a Heritage Train Weekend and this year the 6029 has come with some marvellous carriages from their home at Thirlmere. The engine is a late model steam train, very long to spread the load over the rails. So long there were few places for that class of locomotives to turn around so half the time they pushed their load instead of pulling. It isn’t the most romantic engine I have seen but I had trouble seeing it at all as it was so long it went off the platform and was surrounded by people.

Nina came with me as Bob wasn’t feeling 100%. We had a lovely couple of hours mother / daughter time. Very comfy and we went out to Wimbledon a farming district before returning to town. It has been nice hearing the tooting all weekend as each trip comes and goes from the local station. We sat next to people from Sydney who came up for the weekend.

Already planning another train trip next year. We are usually away in June (last year on the Nullarbor and in Alice Springs the year before) so haven’t had a chance before.

Extra is a very large pear we bought during the week. We had half each. I wonder what half a Pear is called.
