Cressing Temple Barns

A lovely day out at Cressing Temple Barns, just down the road in Witham, where the Essex Food & Drink Fair was being held this weekend. Plenty of sampling to be had, as well as arts and crafts stalls. Although we were tempted, we managed not to buy anything (I really cannot add to my already over-full house!!). However, there were lots of ideas for gifts so I have a whole pile of cards with online details for ordering, which I will peruse at my leisure. After a delicious falafel, haloumi and salad wrap which was three times the size of any wrap I’ve ever eaten, and a 99 Flake ice cream cone - has to be done on a day out - we explored the Tudor walled garden (see Extras). My main blip shows one of the huge barns, the Wheat Barn, which was built by the Knights Templar. The felling date of the timbers used was 1259-1280, which gives an idea of how ancient these barns are. There’s also a Barley Barn adjacent, which is the same age and also Grade I listed. The weather stayed dry for us, which was great. A place to visit again and explore in its own right before too long.
