Them and Us

We share our slip with the ‘Boaties’ but they are bigger than us which means we Selkies get out of the way when they’re launching their yachts. I know that sails take preference over other vessels at sea but I’m not sure where the swimmers stand or more correctly float. However we made it in to the water and out of the water while they were chatting and getting ready although some of our Selkies were booked in for an hour of sea and portable sauna so they might have had to be careful not to be mown down once they had had enough of the steam and were re entering the water.

It was another perfect day today. The sun shone from the off and there was little wind which meant it was warm t- shirt weather. We seem to be beyond any rainy weather.
There were quite a few tourists stravaiging the Stromness Street all day  but tomorrow with a cruise ship in Kirkwall disgorging over 4,000 people on to the streets we may see more. I found peace and quietness during the afternoon in the garden away from any hurly burly and pondered on the fact that back home I would have been cheek by jowl with the Meadows‘ Festival, with a music tent blaring out music for 2 days and hundreds of people walking round the stalls on the other side of the railings.
