Sunday Sauna

This is the third day in a row that I have sat in the seclusion of the garden with  sunshine and a light breeze as my companions to write my blog. The tide is out and the Hamnavoe ferry is in , back from Scrabster with a fresh cargo of tourists.

The tide was in at 10am when most of the dippers gathered at the slip but only the chosen six had access to the very new and luxurious itinerant sauna. I was one of the six and found it very different to any others that I have frequented, in that the sea was right outside and it was perfect for dashing to and fro between the steam and the cold water. It was also lovely to relax with the other ladies without having to rush and get dressed and go our separate ways .

When I was out later to find a coffee, I bumped into the lady I met on Thursday in the tiny coffee shop. She had been on a hike to Warbeth and also needed a coffee. We were within a stone’s throw of the delicatessen that does take away coffees and has seats outside. I have always felt too much like a local to sit outside on my own in the middle of the Street (there are things I wouldn’t do in Edinburgh that tourists can do because they don’t know any one) but I find it acceptable to sit with  someone else. Maybe it’s just a case of not looking like ‘Billy no mates’. Anyway because she leaves tomorrow morning she is coming round this evening for a valedictory cuppa, nothing stronger because as she says she is on the 6:30am boat and needs to be in full control of her faculties at that hour.

I had a plan to eat healthily and perhaps lose a little avoirdupois whilst I was on holiday but fell at the first hurdle literally yesterday evening  after ordering chips and mushy peas from the local chippy to have with my  cooked mackerel. As I carried the plate to the table, I tripped over a stool I had forgotten about, the chips landed on the floor beside me but luckily the plate with the fish and mushy peas made it on to the table. I stubbed my big toe and hurt my pride. The fallen chips, only  a third of the amount I bought,   were hastily gathered up and consumed so there was nothing wasted but I’m now walking with the stubbed toe limp.
