Waterfalls

We had such a great day today as we went waterfall searching. The weather report predicted rain, but it was mostly sunny and warm. First we visited good old Goðafoss which is always spectacular, then we found pretty little Ullarfoss which has a small power station. Then we walked a beautiful path to Aldeyjarfoss on the east side of Skjálfandifljót.

Then we decided to go look for a waterfall we had never heard of before, Barnafoss. The road there was terrible, because it was not a road but a path with a very high ridge in the middle which constantly scraped the bottom of our small jeep. It also started raining quite hard so we nearly gave up, but then decided to walk up a hill and lo and behold there was the most amazing waterfall, that is Barnafoss. It is a waterfall where two rivers are merging. The one river is a glacial river, Skjálfandifljót and a rock stream, Svartá. I found it fabulous, perhaps because it was so secluded and difficult to reach.

We also find lots of real blueberries all over, they are much riper here in the north than in the South.
