Grumpy Old Man

Over the sea to . . . .

. . . . Kerrera.

Today was the last meeting of the u3a Creative Writing Group until September and it was held on the island of Kerrera. Not at the convenor's house as we usually do, but at the NE tip of the island where we lunched at the Waypoint Café at the marina. It's not usually open for meals on a Tuesday, but our convener is a Kerrera resident and made a special arrangement.

We arrived at the North Pier to meet the boat which was to take the five of us across the water - foot passengers only. Unfortunately after a dry walk down from the house, the rain began as we joined the waiting throng for the last trip on the Waverley from Oban. Today's trip was a return voyage to Salen and Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, with a circumnavigation of the Isle of Muck and a passing by the peninsula of Ardnamurchan, the most westerly point of the British mainland.

Fortunately the shower was a quick one and we had sunshine as we chugged over to the marina on our ten minute journey. We had a great view of Waverley getting ready to leave for Mull, my Blip today.

We had our usual u3a programme - first, the 10 minutes to do a write-up on the Mystery Object, which was a piece of amber containing what looked like a tiny moth, encased in a lovely silver mount. Then before and after lunch we read out our written pieces. A good time was had by all,  with a view out over the marina to Oban across the water - today's extra.

Back on the 2pm boat and a walk home up the hill - with just enough sunshine for a cuppa out on the deck!
