The river rises,
the slough is filling so the
waterfowl moves in

I was on my way to McArthur Island Park just after 6. We have a lovely day coming on and I didn't want to waste the morning.

I stopped near the entrance to note the slough has filled all around the island. Debris is floating and the birds have already moved in to make use of the slough.

I caught sight of my first goslings of the season. The Canada geese were escorting their brood of six along the newly freshened waterway. Somehow they managed to move them up onto the bank where they nestled around the parent immediately.

Two does were browsing their way along the drive. One nibbled the grass while the other reached up to prune the tree overhead.

I walked the footbridge to get a look into the slough enjoying the reflections and to get a shot of my mountains from the far side.

On the south side of the park, the marmots were out scampering about and eating all they could find. We had some gusty winds yesterday that brought down some tree branches for them to sample. They seem to like the willow.

My last shot of the slough caught something like a raft with a chair left by the bank. Is someone planning a river voyage?

I am waiting  on a small roof repair this morning. Then, it will be back to the paperwork for the morning. Errands will fill the afternoon.
