Mixed Emotions
This is Stuart playing my Telecaster. Or, to be more accurate, playing his new Telecaster. To cut a long story short, I’m buying a new guitar and whilst I was happy to trade in my old Fender acoustic, it left quite a shortfall to the amount required to buy the new one. So I reluctantly put my Telecaster into the deal, which made the figures more acceptable.
And then, almost immediately, wished I hadn’t offered the Tele as a trade in. It was my first proper guitar bought twenty years ago. I did sell it after a few years to fund a different one, but I always regretted it and was delighted to be able to buy it back about eight years ago. But - and this is a big “but” - I’ve only played it once in anger since then.
So, it’s not being used but I have a sentimental attachment to it. Talking to Stuart about it, he offered to buy it off me for what I’d been offered in p/x. He’d always liked the guitar, he knew its history and he’d give it the use it deserves.
And thus a deal has been done. Mixed feelings, as I said. Glad that it will now be used as it should be and a little sad that it’s gone again. But I also have the comfort of knowing that I will have first refusal should Stuart ever decide he no longer wants it.
So it may come home at some future date but, in the meantime, I will get the pleasure of hearing it being played by the master…
