MARATHON DAY

Becky and Mike left early to take 2 subway trains to get into Boston.  I stayed in the apartment with Astrid. In Boston they walked  to where the baggage buses were located and Becky put her bag there and then she got  the transport provided (a yellow schoolbus) to the start area. Beckys start time was 10.50am.

Mike ran back to the apartment and then he got donuts and coffee from Dunkin Donuts for our breakfast.  Then we watched the marathon footage on TV.

Later on the 3 of us got the 2 subway  trains into Boston and had a wander trying to find a good spot to watch the runners pass by. In my extra you can see a couple of signs I spotted in the crowd as well as the view from the spot where we standing.  The turning on the left leads along to the finish area.  We managed to just about spot Becky as she passed. Beckys finishing time was 3hrs 43 mins.

Then we made our way to the prearranged meeting spot.  Becky got there before us.   She had a rest on a bench and then we headed to the Public Garden to see the  "make way for ducklings" statues. They were specially decorated for marathon day. See Extra. Becky was too exhausted to take 2 subway trains so we got a taxi back to the apartment.

Blip shot shows Beckys lovely medal (it has a unicorn on it as this is the symbol of the marathon) and one of the hundreds of pots of daffodil plants around the city with the words "Boston Strong"

Had a quiet evening... Becky told us about the marathon and we watched a replay of the race on TV. Another takeaway meal....... Becky had pasta and Mike and me had 5 Guys burgers and chips.

I did some packing as we are leaving Boston tomorrow and heading for Chatham.
