Siblings

Matt is here for a visit and Dana joined us on our walk this morning. We repaired to the Trail House for a coffee and came home for Matt to spend a lot of time on the phone. He is Chief Product Officer for Rawlings which makes all things baseball from gloves, bats and balls to apparel. As with every other business, they are trying to figure out the effect of tariffs on their pricing. The worst part is the fact that it changes every other day.

Rawlings is a big company and if this constant uncertainty is hurting them and as a result, major league baseball, it is ruining small businesses.

Julia and her friend are going to a Dodger game tonight while they still can. They are wearing limited edition sweatshirts that Matt got in Tokyo at the Japanese World Series. It’s a cute picture so I’m putting it in extras.

The would be king doesn’t even understand tariffs, but is convinced that it is going to be short term pain for long term gain, despite what many of his advisors and even some Republicans have told him. Economists are worried about an economic collapse. Government bonds, always considered a safe investment are being sold off. People are probably putting their money under their mattresses.

It’s hard to believe that something can’t be done to stop this before the economy is destroyed, but it is impossible to think what the ordinary citizen, the ones who will be hurt the most, can actually do besides continuing to protest and contact our congressional representatives.

In the meantime, while the country falls apart the creator of the chaos plays golf and goes to car races.
