Skeg Vegas
The last time I was in Skegness was 2003 and in a play which had been entered as part of a festival.
It was called The Golden Fleece and as I remember it, a very funny parody of the greek myth. I played Jason (of “…and the argonauts” fame) and with my hair line already well on the decline, wore a mullet wig which made me look like Fun House presenter; Pat Sharp.
Whilst the play itself didn’t win, two of the cast members (neither of whom were me - it’s ok, what actor wants any recognition for their work?) were deserving winners for their roles.
I returned there today as a father and bored the children with my tales of theatrical derring-do. To wake them back up again, we had a fantastic race on some go-karts, ate rubbish and played some crazy golf.
As the day wore on, I was proud of my offspring for having had enough of the noise and wanting to retire to the sanctuary of our lodge and another dip in the onsite pool.
So that’s exactly what we did. Stopping only to pick up some veg, which we were all craving!
Once more I leave Skegness (or Skeg Vegas to which it is lovingly referred) bereft of awards, but with a pile of veg and less money than I started with.
