Hawthorn Creatures, Garden Chorister

Lovely to see my daughter this morning, as usual we had plenty to chat about. I cut the asparagus and gave her a bagful to share between her colleagues.

I'm pleased to say there were a few more bugs about today. I've included a Mirid and some sort of pupa I think, on hawthorn. Hawthorn is in the news as David Hockney has a retrospective exhibition on in Paris. I remember when his A Bigger Picture was on at the Royal Academy in 2012 there was much talk about his hawthorns, if I remember rightly a critic likened them to slugs. Today I've read of the grand paintings in which hawthorns like gigantic squidgy chess pieces appear to undulate and dance while exuding creamy blossoms like squashed eclairs. They're radiantly weird. I love those Yorkshire pictures. Hockney's favourite season is spring. I remember in lockdown he entitled a picture of some daffodils against a gloomy background, Do Remember, They Can't Cancel The Spring. Evidently this caption is picked out in pink neon at the Louis Vuitton Foundation where David Hockney 25 is being held.

I've included another of my garden choristers, a blue tit this time.
