The iron bridge at Ironbridge
Today we first went to Blists Hill Museum which is a reconstructed town from 1900. So Interesting to go into lots of different shops as they would have been in that era. Also we learnt about candle making , the blacksmith , brick making and saw some of the amazing machinery used in the iron works. The chemist shop was so detailed as was the haberdashery. In the chemist shop there was a gruesome looking dentist chair…see extra. The children got in free with their Blue Peter badges…that saved £15 each! There was also an old fashioned fun fair which they had some rides on and a huge playground with a zip wire ( not 1900 style!)
Second extra is some of the advertising signs from 1900…some products are still going today.
Then we went to small town of Ironbridge. I have not visited before and we were in awe of the bridge which was constructed in 1781. Some very interesting independent shops too and a nice cafe for a cream tea sitting outside!
Neither of the places were very busy because the schools here don’t break up until Friday. I don’t think it would be the same next week or on the summer.
