Interesting day.

After the morning dog walk I had a go at the Synology NAS. First I tried a drive and concluded it was healthy as far as SMART is concerned. I then mounted the disk with a SATA-USB adapter, created half a mirror, and a volume group and copied all the data off it without a problem.

I then tested the health of the second disk and that was fine too. When I put them both back in the NAS it stopped flashing blue at me, but is now beeping loudly, however I can access the drive over the network without a problem, so I should be able to find out what's going on, once someone gives me the admin password...

In the afternoon we took the dog to the beach for his walk. Officially the beaches are now closed to dog, until September, but last year they were open an extra month, and we've no idea if that applies or doesn't this year. There was plenty of space for everyone and plenty of other dogs, so we were okay.
