Half a mirror
I had a half day and went to the IT club to try to get to the bottom of the Synology NAS problem. The power light is blinking and you can't access it over the network, which is a problem for network attached storage!
I took the disks out of it an tried it and that made it start without flashing, so I've ruled out corrupt firmware, which does happen. So that leaves a problem with the configuration. I'll have to do a full reset which should retain all the data but will reinstall the operating system of the Synology.
I didn't have time in the club, so I took it home and here it is half assembled on my desk. The other disk is connected to my computer being tested as I took this picture.
Tomorrow I plan to copy all the data off half the mirror so I've a copy in case there are problems. As this is a back blip I can confirm all the data was copied, so now there are three identical copies, one each on the two disks in the Synology and a third on my desktop system.
